Citroen Ami two-seat electric city car: prices, specs and customisation options
Citroen’s ultra-compact electric quadricycle is available with a variety of customisation options, priced from £7,695 or £19.99 a month
If you’re one of the roughly 2,000 Brits who reserved a Citroen Ami, order books for the ultra-compact electric city car are now open. Prices start from £7,695 for the basic version, rising to £8,495 or £8,895 for the more distinctive Ami Pop and Ami Vibe models respectively, with the two-seat EV also available on finance from just £19.99 per month.
All versions of the French brand’s zero-emissions quadricycle feature an 8bhp electric motor and 5.5kWh battery for a top speed of 28mph and an official range of 46 miles. Plus, thanks to a Type 2 adaptor for the Ami’s built-in charging cable, it can be topped up in just under three hours from any home wallbox or public charger.
All Amis also come with a digital driver’s display, LED headlamps and tail-lights, a panoramic sunroof and a USB charging port for your phone. Go for the bog-standard model and you get the option of adding an orange, blue or grey ‘colour pack’ for £400, which includes colour-coded wheel trims, decals and dashboard storage box.
The colour packs also add a net for separating the driver and passenger footwells, a smartphone cradle for the dashboard and what Citroen calls the ‘DAT@AMI connection box’, which allows you to monitor the Ami’s charge status and more from the MyCitroën mobile app.
Upgrading to the Ami Pop adds everything from the orange colour pack, paired with black trim on the Ami’s face, front and rear bumpers, and around the rear lights. The Ami Pop also features a black rear spoiler and orange decals surrounding the doors. Finally, there’s the Ami Vibe, which complements the grey colour pack with decorative black roof rails, black wheelarches and ‘Contours’ decals on the doors and front wings.
Those who’ve reserved an Ami will soon be able to place their final orders on Citroen’s website, before customer deliveries begin later this summer. General sales of the French brand’s quirky quadricycle will open in due course, with the Ami to be sold exclusively online, although owners will get to choose between home delivery and collecting their car from an approved retailer.
Customers will also get a choice of cash or PCP (Personal Contract Purchase) payment options, with the Ami available from as little as £19.99 a month on a 24-month contract, with a £2,369 deposit. The contract is limited to 5,000 miles a year, with an optional final payment at the end if you wish to keep your Ami.
All Amis sold in the UK will be left-hand drive, but as Citroen points out, this means drivers can exit the car directly onto the pavement. As the Ami isn’t a car, but a quadricycle, anyone with an AM moped licence can drive one on the road.
The commercial version of the Ami, named the My Ami Cargo, is also making its way to British shores, priced at £7,995. With the same range as the passenger version, the My Ami Cargo is best suited to last-mile parcel and food deliveries in urban areas.
In place of the passenger seat, the My Ami Cargo features a seven-part cargo module which offers up to 260 litres of storage space. There's also a table for filling in and storing forms, plus a secure storage compartment for a driver’s wallet or phone. All told, the My Ami Cargo has a maximum load volume of 400 litres, and can carry a payload of up to 140kg.
Since it was revealed back in 2021, the Ami has also spawned a sister car from Opel, called the Rocks-e, however it won't be making its way to the UK as a Vauxhall. Meanwhile, Renault is launching its Mobilize mobility brand with a similar zero-emissions quadricycle called the Duo, based on the EZ-1 concept unveiled last year. Kia has also hinted a new bargain pure-electric city car could be on the way to rival the Ami as well.
