Twin test: Vauxhall Mokka-e vs Kia e-Niro

Vauxhall's new Mokka-e electric SUV takes on the more established Kia e-Niro in our compact electric SUV twin test

Vauxhall Mokka-e vs Kia e-Niro

The electric SUV market has exploded in recent years, and has grown to include cars of all shapes and sizes from smaller offerings like the Hyundai Kona Electric and Mercedes EQA, all the way up to the ultra-premium BMW iX and Tesla Model X.

The Vauxhall Mokka-e and Kia e-Niro you see here represent two of the more compact entries in the electric SUV market, taking very different approaches to attract customers. The e-Niro is the more established car in this class, as it has been around for nearly three years now. However, it's still one of the best value electric cars on sale.

Vauxhall’s Mokka-e is very much the new kid on the block, with striking styling inside and out, and bundles of technology to set it apart from the likes of the e-Niro, as well as other electric cars from Stellantis group brands that share its underpinnings.

Vauxhall Mokka-e

Pros: Looks, interior, rapid-charging capability

Cons: Limited range, cramped rear seats, e-Niro is more practical

Kia e-Niro

Pros: Longer range, more comfortable, standard equipment

Cons: Styling, finance deals, dated interior

As you can tell from the pros and cons list of both cars, while the e-Niro places more importance on practicality and range, it's possible that the Mokka-e focuses more on styling to attract younger drivers, at the expense of ultimate value for money. Let's take a closer look, to find out whether that impression is justified...
