Skoda Enyaq iV police, fire and ambulance conversion to be offered from July

Hot on the heels of the Tesla Model 3 police car, Skoda in the UK has announced a blue-light version of the Enyaq iV fully electric family SUV. Emergency-services customers will have the same choice of 62 and 82kWh battery sizes as other buyers, for an official range of up to 333 miles and rapid charging to 80% capacity in under 40 minutes.

Skoda touts the reduced maintenance requirements and significant running-costs savings typical to electric cars as particularly attractive to police, ambulance and fire-service customers, as well as its high ground clearance and upcoming four-wheel-drive variant.

Generous interior space, including 585 and 1,710-litre boot capacities with the rear seats in place and folded down, is also an advantage in these applications, which frequently additional specialised equipment to be carried.

Skoda's Octavia and Superb estates and Karoq SUV are already used by several emergency services, and the company says it can also prepare the 'iV' plug-in hybrid versions of the two estates to emergency-services specification. Like the Enyaq iV conversion, this is offered through a "one-stop-shop" service that adds all necessary lighting and integrates emergency-services communication platforms with the car's built-in infotainment system.
