Citroen e-C4 review: reliability & safety rating

There's not much solid reliability data to go on yet, but the Citroen e-C4's proven underpinnings bode well

The Citroen e-C4 comes built on pretty familiar underpinnings, also being used by the likes of the Peugeot E-2008Vauxhall Mokka ElectricDS 3 E-Tense and Jeep Avenger. We've yet to hear any horror stories and a decent safety rating from Euro NCAP should bring peace of mind.

Citroen e-C4 reliability & problems

You can buy with confidence knowing the Citroen e-C4 was rated the best car to own in our 2023 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey. Buyers lauded the car's smooth drive, but the e-C4 managed to score highly across the board, regardless. It also placed fourth for reliability and quality, meaning it should be pretty painless to own.

Citroen as a brand didn't do quite as well in our brand survey, but still delivered a solid 11th-place finish out of 32 manufacturers. Only 14% of owners reported a fault with their car within the first year of ownership – a figure that's below average for the survey – although owners weren't all too impressed with the price of Citroen's servicing.

Safety

The e-C4 received a four-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests in early 2021, with a 76% rating for adult occupant protection and 83% for child protection. It gets a good amount of safety and driver assistance systems: all get the 'Safety Pack Plus' option that adds traffic-sign recognition, driver attention warning, lane-departure detection, forward collision warning and improved autonomous emergency braking.
