New 2022 MG ZS EV electric SUV: prices and specifications

MG's electric SUV is one of the best-value electric cars on sale, with prices starting from £29,245

Pricing for the entire 2022 MG ZS EV line-up has been revealed, with the latest version of the electric SUV available in both standard and long-range forms, starting from under £30,000. Both versions of the 2022 DrivingElectric Car of the Year are offered in three trim levels: SE, Trophy and Trophy Connect.

While the pre-facelift model featured a 44.5kWh battery, the entry-level Standard Range version now has a 51kWh unit and can cover up to 198 miles on a charge. Meanwhile, the Long Range model gets a 72kWh battery for a greater 273-mile range – a 110-mile increase over the old model.

Standard equipment on the SE includes LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, vehicle-to-load charging, a 360-degree parking camera and a 10.1-inch central touchscreen.

The Trophy adds a panoramic sunroof, ‘leather-style’ upholstery, roof rails, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat and wireless phone charging. Trophy Connect gets all of that, plus additional live services on the infotainment, including weather, traffic and Amazon Prime.

Full pricing is as follows:

ModelOn-the-road price
SE£29,245
Trophy£31,495
Trophy Connect£31,995
SE Long Range£31,495
Trophy Long Range£33,995
Trophy Connect Long Range£34,495

All ZS EVs feature a suite of driver assistance systems called ‘MG Pilot’, which includes active emergency braking with pedestrian and bicycle detection, as well as lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, traffic-jam assist, an intelligent speed limiter and high-beam assist. On top of that, Trophy and Trophy Connect specs add rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring with lane-changing assistance.

The Long Range model's larger battery does mean longer charging times. Fully recharging the 51kWh battery in the standard car from a standard 7.4kW home wallbox will take eight hours. Alternatively, the updated ZS EV can recharge at up to 76kW from a rapid-charging point, so topping up from 10-80% will take as little as 38 minutes. It'll take 10-and-a-half hours to recharge the 72kWh model from a home wallbox, or 42 minutes to go from 10-80% charge at a 100kW rapid point.

As well as the new battery options, the ZS EV has received a styling update, with the addition of a blanked-out grille for improved aerodynamics. The grille also houses the charging port and is flanked by LED headlights. Meanwhile, there's also a new set of wheels and a redesigned rear bumper.

Inside, there’s a new 10.1-inch central touchscreen running the latest version of MG’s iSMART infotainment system, with a new digital driver’s display behind the steering wheel. MG will also launch a smartphone app that'll let you control some of the ZS EV’s functions remotely, including the climate control and charging.

The ZS EV’s performance hasn’t changed much from the original. Both versions still use a single electric motor that powers the front wheels. The one in the standard ZS EV pumps out 154bhp, while Long Range models have 174bhp on tap. Torque is the same for both, at 280Nm, as is the 108mph top speed and 0-62mph times of over eight seconds.
