New Genesis Electrified G80: price, specs and details

The brand’s Mercedes EQE rival is priced from £65,805 in the UK, on sale from 6 June

Genesis Electrified G80

Prices have been revealed for the Genesis Electrified G80. The Mercedes EQE rival goes on sale on 6 June and will cost from £65,805; just one battery, motor and specification will be offered, with the various option packs capable of sending the price north of £80k.

The Electrified G80 is the Korean luxury carmaker’s second EV to go on sale in the UK, following in the footsteps of the GV60 coupe-SUV. All Electrified G80 models use the same 87.2kWh battery and dual-motor setup for a range of 323 miles.

The electric saloon gets all-wheel drive thanks to two electric motors that combined produce 364bhp and 700Nm of torque; enough to accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds. The Electrified G80 is also able to switch between two and all-wheel drive for improved efficiency and increased range.

The G80 uses the same 800-volt charging tech as the GV60 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, meaning a 10-80% charge takes 22 minutes from a suitably fast ultra-rapid charger. Genesis claims the G80 can maintain its 175-180kW charging speed for almost its entire rapid charge cycle – only dipping as the battery approaches 80%.

All cars get 19-inch wheels, LED lights, a 14.5-inch central infotainment screen and dual-zone climate control. Genesis has used sustainable materials like recycled wood in the cabin, while the car's leather is coloured by natural dye. Customers can add various options including a solar roof (£1,360), which Genesis claims can add up to 1,500km (932 miles) of range per year.

Option packages for the Electrified G80 include the Convenience Pack (£1,170), which adds a heated leather steering wheel, electric tailgate and three-zone climate control. Meanwhile, the Innovation Pack (£3,840) features adaptive headlights, wireless phone charging and a host of safety features including Remote Smart Parking Assist, Highway Driving Assist II and Surround View Monitor Cameras.

Another notable feature of the Electrified G80 is its Active Noise Control-Road (ANC-R) system, which is said to eliminate road noise by analysing data from the four sensors and six microphones built into the car and then producing noises at the “opposite phase” – the same principle behind noise-cancelling headphones.

Customers can also add vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, which effectively allows you to use your car as a portable generator. The technology can power anything from a coffee machine to a fridge freezer, or even help power your house in the event of a powercut.

The Genesis electric line-up now consists of two distinct models; the Electrified G80 and GV60, with the Electrified GV70 zero-emissions SUV due on sale later this year. Every Genesis model will be electrified by 2025, with the brand aiming to be electric-only by the end of the decade.

The Electrified G80 will be Genesis’ answer to the Mercedes EQE, which currently starts from £76,45, the Audi A6 e-tron that's arriving in 2023, and the electric BMW 5 Series we know to be in development.
